The course is taught  through live lectures, video presentations, or by way of the CLST Global online learning management system. The course is comprised of 10 Lessons which will be viewed online or by video or by lecture and interaction of the students with the material if taken in a live session. The lectures and text readings will enable the student to fulfill the course objectives.

 

COURSE SYLLABUS
I. COURSE TITLE: Introduction to Chaplain Ministry

II. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course will offer an overview for better understanding the nature of the Chaplaincy with a focus on the theological foundations, the practical concerns, and the skills needed for one seeking to enter this exciting field of ministry endeavor.

III. COURSE RATIONALE:
The Chaplaincy offers the qualified candidate a wide-ranging field of ministry to meet the needs of hurting people within many aspects of society such as military, hospital, industrial, etc., but what understanding must one have to consider entering this field of ministry?
A. A description and overall nature of the major chaplain fields will be presented.
B. The Biblical foundation for Chaplain Ministry will be presented.
C. A focus on some of the major skills needed for professional chaplain ministry will be addressed.
D. The ethics of chaplain ministry along with a chaplain code of conduct and ongoing education and certifications will be given.

IV. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
A. The student who takes this course will gain an appreciation for the Chaplain Ministry field and will be able to identify the many kinds of Chaplaincies available for one to serve in.
B. The student will be able to articulate Biblical foundations related to the unique nature of the Chaplaincy.
C. The student will investigate the key ministry skills needed for effective ministry in the Chaplaincy.
